Today’s guest is the incomparable Courtney Swain, who is well known as the lead singer and keyboardist for Bent Knee. Her voice is unique, powerful, and expressive, and her songwriting is both relatable and mysterious. Although Courtney has released several shorter albums in the past, she recently released her first full length album, Between Blood and Ocean, on May 1st of this year. In Part 1, Courtney and I talked about her time growing up in Japan, how Bent Knee formed, and her solo work. In Part 2, we went through each song on the new album and had an in-depth talk about meanings and influences. We also answered some questions that were submitted by members of the Bent Knee Fan Club (Bent Knees) on Facebook. Check out the videos below, and make sure to buy a copy of Courtney’s new album, Between Blood and Ocean.
