On this week’s Proglodytes Playlist:
Many of us are feeling strange these days, due to the suggestions of many government officials to stay home and not spread this awful virus around. Though I’ve found solace in more melancholy tunes, I’ve also tried to be present and mindful and grateful despite the scariness and uncertainty. Here’s my playlist.
Tom Brislin: “Liftoff” from 2012’s Hurry Up and Smell the Roses
You ever hear a song that feels timeless? You know, those songs that seem to have existed forever in our collective hearts, and when we hear them, they feel familiar even though they’re new? Tom Brislin’s “Liftoff” is a painfully nostalgic tune, overflowing with melancholy and memories. The album is absolutely worth checking out as well.
Cheer-Accident: “Language Is”
Cheer-Accident has made a name for itself for constantly exploring and reinventing their sound, truly embodying the progressive spirit. This track, “Language Is”, is one of my favorites from their 2017 album, Putting Off Death. The track starts with a beautiful and contemplative melody, only to devolve into a cacophonous disarray by the end of the track.
Devin Townsend: “Quarantine”
Devin Townsend has been one of my favorite artists for the last 20 years. His tour was recently shut down due to COVID-19 related health concerns, which is a major bummer, because I selfishly was hoping to catch a show. This song is called “Quarantine”- aptly named. A little melancholy, a little atmospheric, beautiful, lush, reflective. Give it a listen. (it was either this or share his song “Pandemic”)
What are you listening to these strange days?
The visuals in that Devin Townsend video are gorgeous. And you win the prize for the most appropriate selection of titles in these viral times.
